The Hunger Games: Playlist
He started the first book on Wednesday and is now half-way through the second. I put together a playlist of songs at his insistence and we listened to it in the car on the way to the beach for Father’s Day yesterday. We drove my parents in the Prius and since we were all raving about the series, my Dad wanted to listen to the first audiobook.
So yeah – my house is currently inundated with The Hunger Games madness.
Thought I’d share the playlist I put together for the first book. I can’t reveal the second and third until Dan is done with those book because he claims I will include spoiler songs. Which is probably true.
Here is a YouTube video with three clips of the audio tracks. I wanted to include them all, but YouTube and the copyright lawyers took a shit. So, this is my second best option:
THE HUNGER GAMES PLAYLIST:
10. Run – Leona Lewis (Snow Patrol cover)
12. Hunter – Bjork (live – couldn’t find the album version on YouTube)
It follows the chronological order of the book and overall the tone is pretty somber/creepy. Pretty similar to the books. There isn’t much hard rock or militancy in this first mix…I tried a few tracks out which upped the tempo and they didn’t jive well with it.
There are some other great compilations out there put together by folks. Almost all of them seem to include Help I’m Alive by Metric which is a personal favorite and alternate to Special Death, but didn’t quite make the cut. In case you’re too lazy to click the link (sometimes it’s just one of those days), here is the video, which is actually a fan-made trailer for the series:
Thinking about putting together a video of the playlist with 30 second audio clips of each song and a corresponding book sample like some of the videos below. We shall see – I still have two other playlists to put together as Dan will most likely be done by the end of the week with all three books.
Not many people articulated in their playlists which books the songs are applicable to. Some are pretty obvious, but I like the structure of separating the books and their emotions out.
So, what’s the verdict? What songs would you include?
